The Lone Bush
Something is knocking at the byre door, and every hawthorn on the road is in blossom. In October.
Driving the back lanes of south Down one October night, a hedge-cutter who has flailed more thorn than any man in the county tells us he has never lost a night's sleep over one bush. His oldest friend has rung to say something is knocking at the byre door, and every hedge on the road is in blossom that has no business being there.
